I would like to highlight the significance of my CEEPUS visit to Cracow (in September 2021). I am a fourth year PhD student at the Faculty of Mining and Geology, University of Belgrade. The main subject of my PhD project are recent and fossil continental carbonates. These carbonates in Serbia in general have not ever been the subject of geological research. In this regard, my stay in Cracow was extremely important, as I had the opportunity to work on my sample collection with Professor Dr. Wojciech Wróblewski, who is an expert for continental carbonates research. During my one-month stay in Cracow, I was engaged in field- and laboratory work and had the opportunity to get acquainted with the method of testing continental carbonates in Europe. Professor W. Wróblewski introduced me into the importance of stable and radiogenic isotopes in the study of continental carbonates and their application to the reconstruction of climatic conditions during the Quaternary. And just to mention one more detail: Prof. Wróblewski visited my faculty in the frame of CEEPUS in 2018 and gave a course with theoretical and practical (microscopy) parts entitled: “Facies of freshwater carbonates”. His lectures partly motivated me to start with investigations of this wonderful geological system 🙂
