The network “Earth-Science Studies in Central and South-Eastern Europe” (EURO Geo-Sci) is one of the oldest (since 1999) and largest CEEPUS networks, involving 19 universities from 11 countries, with more than 1500 individual mobilities realized so far. The network aims at improving the quality of teaching and training in fundamental and applied geosciences within the geologically unique Alpine-Carpathian-Balkan-Dinaride mountain realm. The main expected outcomes are: a) diversification of teaching topics and methods, b) strengthening geo-interdisciplinarity, and c) increase of the scientific quality of learning and teaching. Despite the usual obstacles, such as different legislations, the lack of long-term visits or language barriers, the network continuously succeeds to contribute to the development of geosciences in the region and to prove its relevance in many societal aspects: e.g., environmental problems, water and ore resources, geo-hazards; this makes the CEEPUS network a perfect mode of cooperation in education and research in this region.
