Incoming activity to CRA: Prof. Dr. Hans-Jürgen Gawlick from Department of Applied Geosciences and Geophysics, University of Leoben – Montanuniversität (Austria)

In Krakow student group of 13 participants, all in the MSc study programme, attended the lecture about Regional Geology. The focus of the lecture was beside a general outline of the geological history of the Phanerozoic of Europe the Mesozoic history around the Mediterranean Sea.

We tried to reconstruct on base of regional and historical geology, sedimentology, basin evolution and facies interpretation the geodynamic history of the entire region (tectonostratigraphic concept). As geological base acted geological maps in different scale, because geological maps provide the most complete regional information, and they are normally neutral and without interpretation instead of the various existing and often controversial models of a region. The participating group achieved at the end a lot of “take home messages”.
