Incoming activity to ZAG1: PhD student Marija Bjelogrlić from Faculty of Mining and Geology, University of Belgrade (Serbia)

I would like to emphasize the significance of my CEEPUS mobility in Zagreb, carried out in October 2025, during my third year as a PhD student at the Faculty of Mining and Geology, University of Belgrade. During my one-month stay, I had the opportunity to collaborate with professor Borna Lužar-Oberiter, with the main focus of my research directed toward the petrological and sedimentological analysis of Mesozoic siliciclastic and carbonate formations in the Gacko area (eastern Herzegovina). As part of the laboratory work, together with postdoctoral researcher Sanja Šuica, I worked on the separation of light and heavy mineral fractions from sandstones, as well as on their preparation for zircon extraction. I also became acquainted with the method for separating magnetic and non-magnetic minerals. Through laboratory activities, I gained practical experience in applying methods for the preparation of samples used in the study of carbonate nannofossils. In addition to the laboratory work, I also participated in field investigations of Cretaceous–Paleogene flysch formations in the Cetingrad area. The experience gained during the CEEPUS mobility significantly contributed to my academic development by improving my research competencies, facilitating knowledge exchange, and fostering international collaboration. I am grateful to the assistants Igor Pejnović, Fran Vidaković, and Valerije Marakun for their support during my CEEPUS mobility, which greatly contributed to the success of my research. I would like to express my special gratitude to the coordinators of the CEEPUS mobility, Doc. Dr. sc. Katarina Gobo and Prof. Dr. Kristina Šarić, without whose support this mobility would not have been possible.
